I've decided to keep an on-line record of my gardening activities this year - for my own info and to refer back to and to use in my garden lecturing. This year I'm concentrating on a new veggie garden.
Sue came down and we measured the beds and put up fencing as the deer are a problem! I ended up with six 4x7' rectangular beds down the middle of gardens 2 & 3 - where the best sunlight is. On April 20th, I put in leeks (from Lynn), broccoli, and sugar snap peas (from Holly Hill Farm) staked on bamboo teepees.
It rained hard for several days so didn't get back out there until today
Fri. 4/24/09 -- seeing how Matt has not re-appeared, I went out about 5:45 pm and started weeding and turning beds so I can put in more veggies as it is forecast to be in 80's over this weekend. Felt good to be working in the soil which seems pretty good. Spent most of yesterday scurrying around trying to get more mesh fencing and bamboo poles. Finally got all supplies needed. All I need now is Coast of Maine compost or some from my piles and once Matt tills the rest of the beds, I'm good to go.
Matt transplanted the Fringe tree in early April. I hope it makes it. Still lots of clean up to do but have pansies in window boxes and some seeds started. Pinetree from which I ordered most of my seeds is very late in sending them (I ordered on line 3/19 and they still haven't come) Pain in the butt as there was stuff I wanted to start inside but I guess I'll go to Holly Hill's sale and get tomatoes from them.
Going to grow: lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, carrots, okra, spagetti, patty pan, zucchini squash, radishes, beets, tomatoes and basil, dill, parsley.
Expenses so far (that I can recall): Seeds (Johnny's, Pinetree, Select) dahlias (Swan Island & Russell's), Coast of Maine (5), fertilizer 5-10-5 (1), lime (2), pansies (16) (4), Ageratum (2), Alyssum (2), broccoli starts (1), sugar snap pea starts (2), bamboo posts(50), rolls of mesh fencing (5), roll of padded wire ties, roll of velcro ties, 2 pruners ( 1 broke immediately); hoe/fork combo tool ($2.50 at Tree); hose nozzle, large ball twine, Matt wages, I will fill in amounts later.
