Whether it's taking a workshop with my daughter or just playing with my new kitten, this has been a busy week of ups and downs. So let me try and set a few of them down with pics -- posts are always better with pics!!! Here's the cutie girl, Bella, helping me with my blog. She is just so INVOLVED in everything. Sleeps on my shoulder all night , follows me from room to room, plays vigorously for a while and just simply poops out wherever she is. Adorable - I am so glad I got her and to think I hesitated!!
Been busy in the ornamental bird dept. cranking out the Spring/Easter line. I feel fortunate that 3 local stores are carrying them - and I've also had a few good Etsy sales. Etsy, for me, so far has been challenge. It's like everything else in sales/retail. You have to drive people to your site. Business is not just sitting there waiting for you and your product to appear, secondly - there are an incredible number of very, very talented people producing some amazing stuff that appears on ETSY. However, if you like whimsical birds, you can visit my shop www.brownbirdstudios.etsy.com Thanks!! Actually birds are financing a totally recreational trip to Savannah with Jen late this month -- Savannah is a happening art venue and we will check it ALL out, I am sure!!!
Yesterday, Jen & I took a Tiny Worlds class at the home studio of incredible doll make Mimi Kirchner (mimikirchner.com) who just happens to live In Arlington, MA. I had run across her amazing dolls at Open Studios - SOWA Market in the South End last Oct and was totally enamored - image my surprise when Jen found her by a totally different routes via blogs - but, end result - we both loved her work and decided this would be fun and IT WAS!! We were to make tiny felt & wool creations in a tea cup/similar container that could be used as a pin cushion (if you could bear to deface it!!!). First of all, we all toured Mimi's house - TOTAL visual delight with STUFF from all over, whimsical, Victorian, colorful, funky, and just pain FUN! It was worth the fee just to see the house and all of its attendant stuff ) sorry for such an inelegant description but it is always so amazing to see how an artist surrounds him/herself - what inspires them, what they like to look at!!! And not in any sterile - this-is-my-studio kinda way!! Thanks Mimi for a fun class and inspiringly great day!
And this was my tiny world complete with cottage and a grove of fruit trees! I cannot image I will ever make another of these but it was fun to spend of day with other creative women who hands held nothing more than needles and who voices gently chatted about what means most to us - our families, our creative endeavors, what the future might hold - all those kinds of things that make the time spent so worthwhile. A good ending to a less than favorite month!!
Oh Ginny, so glad you introduced me to Bella. She is adorable! Sounds as if she is a perfect companion. Very happy for you both.
